From BROOKLYN BODEGA:
2009 marks the 30th Anniversary of Teena Marie’s recording career with the June release of her thirteenth CD, Congo Square – and there’s a milestone for every decade that has led to it. First is the 16-song CD itself, boasting all of the panoramic musicality a fan could desire. Second is her fresh alignment with Stax Records that –after her storied Motown debut in 1979 – marks the second time Teena has been proudly affiliated with a bedrock black music institution. Finally, there’s a more personal revelation regarding her family lineage that once and for all proves why she has been bursting with indisputable soul all these years. Teena has New Orleans roots!

This week THE ZRO HOUR pays tribute to one of the most influential emcees EVER..LL COOL J.
LL COOL J recently celebrated 25 years in the music business. After 13 album releases, this media titan has survived numerous battles on the mic, helped shape the hip hop genre and laid the blueprint for many of the most successful artists today. The mix on this week's show reflects his diversity as a lyricist and serves as a reminder of his once dominant emcee skills. I drop some favorites, rare singles and interviews including one from 1985. Download this one for the archives!

VIDEO: R.I.P. MARCUS- Mike Swift & J-Hon of Point Dot Period Release Footage from Interview Session with THE ZRO HOUR
I ran into Mike Swift & J-Hon of Point Dot Period at last night's iStandard Beast of the Beat battle (shout out to Subliminal!) and they told me of this footage that was posted recently. It was taken during the recording of my interviews with Bobbito Garcia and the return of Point Dot's crew in 2008. Mike Swift has a few words about the video:
"BRIGHTON BEACH STAND UP!..We lost another good friend due to street violence summer 2009. We didnt get to see his him at his wake because we had to be in the Philippines to fulfill a mission. We pray for Marcus and his family. Brighton beach brooklyn all day we rep that, REST IN PEACE Marcus. This is very sad for me and heez. This is very sad to those who knew him. Please stop the violence."
Its great seeing this footage but not for the reason of losing another spirit. Stay strong homies...

Next Tuesday (November 10), the ImageNation Cinema Foundation will premiere in New York the ODB tribute film Dirty: One Word Can Change the World. Directed by Dirty’s cousin Raison Allah, the documentary commemorates the colorful rapper’s life though personal interviews with the Wu-Tang Clan, Sunz of Man, Killarmy, the Black Knight, and the Brooklyn Zu. In addition to the feature film presentation, movie-goers will be treated to a live performance from ODB’s Brooklyn Zu. Following the film, members of Brooklyn Zu, Wu-Tang, and author Terrie Williams (Black Pain: It Just Looks like We Aren’t Hurting) will chronicle Dirty’s musical legacy along with important information on mental health and substance abuse prevention. Ol Dirty Bastard, real name Russell Jones, was one of the most popular emcees in the Wu-Tang Clan. In November 2004, he died suddenly of a drug overdose.
