PRODUCER's CORNER: BATSAUCE

I a little biased when it comes to the music of producer BATSAUCE. I have profiled him many times on this site and thru the podcasts over the years. Batsauce is still one of the illest beatsmiths below the radar. Check out his soundcloud page for the unvarnished truth. Batsauce recently released a project with emcee Qwazaar entitled "Style Be The King".

Check out the new video from the project below "Qwazaar & Batsauce - A Feeling ft. K.P. & Denizen Kane":

SPOTLIGHT: FARRAH BURNS

Frequent listeners of THEZROHOUR podcast and readers of the blog know that I always feature the best female emcees on the scene. Haitian born Farrah Burns got next. She began her performance career headlining in New York City hot spots like Joes Pub, SOB's, Knitting Factory, APOLLO, South Paw, Galapagos, Canal Room, Webster Hall, Lyricist Lounge and Philadelphia's own Mecca for soul performances Black Lily.

I first heard Farrah Burns at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn, New York some time back. I was impressed with her flow and stage presence but forgot to seek her out. Flash forward to a few weeks ago and her video for the brilliant song "Shotgun Wedding" came my way and I was blown away by her neck snapping track. This week she dropped a new free project "Who Is Farrah Burns" which is available on datpiff.com. The mixtape is framed by interview segments that allow you into the essence of this powerful voice. Check it out below and hit up her Facebook and Reverbnation pages to tell her what you think-

SPOTLIGHT: ANTI-CREW

Chicago based hip hop/alternative band ANTI-CREW is blazing through the mid-west with their genre-fusing sound. Their newest release, Foundation: Expansion Plan, is Hip-Hop at the core with a cross-genre sound that encompasses the essence of live instrumentation blended well with original sampling and turntablism. Band members MC FlareThaRebel, guitarist Pat Attack, bassist Cambo, and drummer Archangel each bring their distinct musical flavor to the stew. Below is a video for "BLUR":

PODCAST: THEZROHOUR On BBOXRADIO.COM Episode 2

This week I continue to bring forward the best in indepenent/underground hip hop. The show features music from ULTRABEAST (Senor Kaos & 4-IZE), APATHY, ODDISEE, JEAN GRAE, PHONTE & ELZHI, BROWN BAG ALLSTARS, FRESH VETZ, 9TH WONDER feat. RAEKWON, DA KREEK, DANNY BROWN and others. Starting this week I premiered two new segments on THEZROHOUR- "Producer's Corner" and "Spotlight Artist". BATSAUCE, producer of The Smile Rays and Lady Daisey among others is the first to bless the "Producer's Corner". I play a medley of some of his strongest bangers. "Spotlight Artist" is the section of the show where I play new music from artists you should be watching for. The first two "Spotlight Artists" of the week are Brooklyn, N.Y. emcee FARRAH BURNS (www.reverbnation.com/farrahburns) and Chicago, Illinois based Hip Hop/Alternative band ANTI-CREW (http://AnticrewMusic.com).

Beginning September 30th and throughout the month of October, previously registered owners of both Propellerheads REASON & RECORD can name their price to receive a full downloadable version of the new REASON 6. Reason 6 combines the functionality of Record with Reason in one powerful DAW. Propellerheads puzzled many by the decision to initially offer a separate recording package when it was the most requested feature for any upgrades.

So what are you going to pay? $1? 50 Cents? $100?

THEZROHOUR Returns TONIGHT & Every Wednesday 9-11PM On BBOXRADIO.COM

THEZROHOUR with your host EDAYE, is returning to the internet airwaves after a long hiatus. Hope you missed hearing the best in independent hip hop as much as I missed delivering it to ya!

The station depends on donations and private funding and BBOX has launched a KICKSTARTER campaign that you can view below:

Tonight's show is a rebroadcast from my premiere last Friday with new episodes beginning next Wednesday. THEZROHOUR is still available as a podcast on itunes and podomatic.com as well. Hit the link below to tune in:

R.I.P. Singer/Songwriter/Producer NICK ASHFORD

I was watching the late news tonight when this came in. Very sad to hear that we lost another of our greatest talents from the world of music. Nick Ashford, known for his collaborative songwriting and group with his longtime wife Valerie Simpson, passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 69. Nick and Valerie were two of the most prominent and successful songwriters at Motown. With hits like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," along with "You're All I Need To Get By", the duo cemented their legacy. Nick and Valerie also wrote and produced hits for Chaka Khan ("I'm Every Woman"), Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Teddy Pendergrass and Diana Ross. They also owned several restaurant/clubs, including the 20/20 on W. 20th St. and the Sugar Bar on W. 72nd St.in New York City.

Read more about Nick Ashford HERE

Below is a video that I believe was filmed at the Sugar Bar in NYC. Ashford & Simpson sings my favorite, their biggest charted hit "Solid". He will never be forgotten..

DANNY BROWN Releases "XXX"

After doing some online digging last year, I came across a site that listed 10 emcees to watch for in 2011. Danny Brown immediately caught my attention. There was a sample of his track "Re-up" and his first line threw me: "I used to get domed up by crackheads..." The production was WU-ish and the lyrics grimy and unapologetic. I rushed to download his street LP "The Hybrid" and later started telling peeps that this dude was the truth!

Flash forward to this year's release "XXX"(30). Danny Brown, now signed to DJ A-Trak's label Fool's Gold Records, returns with his first full length project since "The Hybrid". In between he has appeared on Black Milk's "Album Of The Year" and Random Axe's (Sean Price, Black Milk and Guilty Simpson) debut album. "XXX" ranks side by side with "The Hybrid" as Danny ups the political incorrectness and delivers jarring, spaced out flows. DOWNLOAD at foolsgoldrecs.com/xxx
