MUSIC TECH: REASON 5.0 and RECORD Available Now

Propellerhead's Reason, one of the world's leading music production software, has been updated to 5.0. New feature sets include a new instrument, Kong Drum Designer, an upgrade to their venerable Dr. Rex sample player, Dr. Octo-rex and sampling input for all sample playback modules (NN-19, NN-XT, Dr. Octo-Rex, Kong, Redrum). MUSIC TECH: Preview of New Features in Propellerheads' REASON 5.0 and RECORD 1.5

This week Propellerheads Software introduced several new features to their powerhouse sequencer/synth/sampler engine REASON and new digital audio workstation RECORD. REASON users have long wanted an audio recording option and Propellerheads answered with RECORD last year. RECORD is a very powerful stand alone DAW but works in tandem with REASON as well. REASON 5.0 introduces the ability to sample and edit within all of the sample players- Redrum, NN-19, NN-XT.



The flexible loop player, DR. Rex, has now been renamed DR. Octo-Rex. With DR. Octo-Rex, you can trigger up to eight samples from one unit by stacking them or playing slices in a sequenced order. RECORD 1.5 features a pitch adjuster, Neptune, that delivers effects similar to Auto-Tune and both REASON and RECORD incorporates the new "Blocks" sequencer feature. For truly original drum design, the MPC & 808 influenced Kong Drum Designer is a powerhouse drum machine giving you virtually every type of drum sound generation around- analog synth generators, physical modeling, REX loops and slices, sample playback and live sampling.

Propellerhead Software, creators of industry standard titles such as REASON and RECYCLE, have answered the prayers of the faithful. Propellerhead's Reason software has developed into one of the most powerful and sonically superior virtual instruments/sequencers on the market. You can compose ill drum sequences, incorporate samples and build tracks with massive synths within a hardware emulated environment. The only thing missing and requested by users of the program (myself included), was a way to record digital audio into Reason. Propellerhead has answered with the release of RECORD. Record gives you unlimited audio tracks, world class effects and mixing gear, and a whole new take on music recording. Record was designed for musicians - not audio engineers.



RECORD incorporates Reason seamlessly. With a registered copy of Reason, there will be no need to launch both programs simultaneously. When you open Record, all of your components (rack gear) and refills are available. Record allows you to work within your normal set up and add the power and flexibility expected from current DAWs (digital audio workstations). Record comes standard with a suite of effects, including Line 6 modeling amps, that can be used in conjunction with Reason's built in effects. The mixing console's sound and signal processing is faithfully modelled after the legendary SSL 9000k analog mixing desk.
