VIDEO: Holiday Inn Express Rapper

Caught this on TV last night and thought it was freakin' hilarious. Buttoned down, conservative white dude runs into a cipher on a corner...

VIDEO: Unbelievable McCain Vs. Obama Dance-Off

This is the funniest and slickest video that I have seen in a looong time. Barack Obama, John McCain and Sarah Palin in a b-boy battle. There was a "Breakin"" parody video called "Barackin'" with a similar theme but this one superimposes the actual faces in a creepy but realistic way. It makes this clip really stand out.

MUSIC TECH: Journal Of Hip Hop Production- PRODUCER'S EDGE Digital Edition

With the void left by SCRATCH magazine and the minimal focus on hip hop in music production publications (an exception being REMIX magazine), PRODUCER'S EDGE satisfies that thirst for knowledge and information to create music of champions. I found Producer's Edge at a newsstand in NY by accident and devoured the incredible amount of info in just one issue. There were interviews with Easy Mo Bee and David Banner, an in depth history of EMU's SP1200 sampling drum machine, and tutorials on recording and music distribution among other rich content. I was impressed to have so much contained in one source and in an independent one at that. That was issue two and with the arrival of issue three, Producer's Edge has transformed into a completely digital and FREE online magazine. Producer’s Edge is one of the first to utilize a multi-media format as a Digital Magazine with embeddedd video, audio and live downloads. The original format had a DVD-ROM attached to the magazine full of free sounds, software instruction and demos. All of that content is now available online and if you sign up as a subscriber, you get access to additional XC (extra content) for download.

Issue No. 3 of Producer's Edge features interviews with Pete Rock, The RZA, an incredible overview of the MV 8800 and tutorials on getting your drum game tight. If you are looking for well rounded coverage of the tools and techniques within hip hop/R&B/reggae/electronic production, this is a must read. No fluff. Where SCRATCH magazine almost got it right, Producer's Edge surpasses that vison.

Godfather of Rap Rudy Ray Moore aka DOLEMITE Dies At 81

From the L.A. Times:

Rudy Ray Moore, the self-proclaimed "Godfather of Rap" who influenced generations of rappers and comedians with his rhyming style, braggadocio and profanity-laced routines, has died. He was 81.

Moore, whose low-budget films were panned by critics in the 1970s but became cult classics decades later, died Sunday night in Toledo, Ohio, of complications from diabetes, his brother Gerald told the Associated Press.

Though he was little known to mainstream audiences, Moore had a significant effect on comedians and hip-hop artists.

"People think of black comedy and think of Eddie Murphy," rap artist Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew told the Miami Herald in 1997. "They don't realize [Moore] was the first, the biggest underground comedian of them all. I listened to him and patterned myself after him."

And in the liner notes to the 2006 release of the soundtrack to Moore's 1975 motion picture "Dolemite," hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg said:

"Without Rudy Ray Moore, there would be no Snoop Dogg, and that's for real."

When it came to his own sense of his accomplishments, Moore was never burdened by immodesty.

"These guys Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac claim they're the Kings of Comedy," Moore told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 2003. "They may be funny, but they ain't no kings. That title is reserved for Rudy Ray Moore and Redd Foxx."

VIDEO: RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY Lecture Session With NICOLAY of Foreign Exchange

www.redbullmusicacademy.com

Matthijs L. Nicolay Rook’s CV reads like a modern-day social networking fairy tale. After years of playing bass ‘n’ drums in various funk bands (p and electronic) and pulling a Kanye after falling out with his teachers at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam over his fascination with Frank Zappa, Nicolay had already ended his dreams of being a professional musician and got himself a 9-to-5. Some day he caught up with then-rising Jansport hero Phonte on the Okayplayer message board, uploaded some of his work as a hobby beat maker – and ended up with a full set of songs recorded over his instrumentals. The rather unconventionally founded group was called Foreign Exchange, released their debut album on BBE in 2004 and gained the praises of ?uesto and company. Three more full-lengths (one with Houston MC Kay, one solo as a producer, and a second Foreign Exchange LP with Phonte), a launch of an own label (Nicolay Music Group) and a relocation to the shores of North Carolina later, this fly Dutchman definitely stands out as one of the most inspired beat cats on Planet Rock, remixing Roy Ayers and laying down richly instrumented computer soul for US indie luminaries as well as the leaders of the European pack.
