COLLECTIBLES: Misaki Minato Action Figure from Santa Inoue's Tokyo Tribe3

Cheers to Andy @ TOYSREVIL for the original news on this-

On an earlier post I spoke briefly about a hip hop/street gang based animated series from Japan entitled TOKYO TRIBE2. TOKYO TRIBE2 is an incredibly authentic (in respect to hip hop) series created by Santa Inoue and animated by MADHouse Studios. It is based on the TOKYO TRIBES manga (first published in 1998) and follows the lives and conflicts of several street gangs or "tribes" in modern day Japan. The manga and the anime illustrates urban culture with nods to DJs emcees, graf and fashion. Some of the supporting characters have names influenced by real hip hop personalities. The above figure by Medicom Toy is due to be released in the last quarter of 2009. Misaki Minato is a character from the current manga series TOKYO TRIBE3. The detail is spot on with the clothing draping the figure just right. Check out the "gumby" fade and the Timbs! TOKYO TRIBE3 is not available yet in the U.S. but you can get the original TOKYO TRIBES english translated manga at Amazon.com.

Check out the original post HERE for more figure pics. I found this great overview of the manga and anime at the POISONOUS PARAGRAPHS blog HERE. The anime is still not available officially in the U.S. but if you are savvy, you can find episodes on youtube.com and other sites online. I said it before and I will say it again...we are sleeping!

MOVIES: Chinese hip Hop Documentary FOLLOW YOUR HEART

This year we are being treated to an incredible rebirth of the love for hip hop culture. I say this because the atmosphere is ripe for creativity and a return to the tenets of hip hop. Even more remarkable is how hip hop is thriving within other cultures. Struggle is a common language and hip hop is born from it. This year's PLANET B-BOY was a remarkable documentary (REVIEWED a couple of months ago) that offered a peek inside the lives of international B-Boy crews. The crews from Japan and South Korea were heavily featured. It was great seeing how their society receives hip hop and the frustration of their families. Many common struggles and a few cultural ones but the parental concern is universal. Thanks to a heads up by TWITCHFILM, another documentary is making the rounds of the festivals.

FOLLOW YOUR HEART: CHINA'S NEW YOUTH MOVEMENT takes you inside the hip hop culture in China. All elements are represented from the looks of the trailer and clips on the website. Just more proof that Hip Hop is universal. I can't wait for this to come to to NYC..I'll keep ya posted.

THE ZRO HOUR- HIP HOP LOVE

THE ZRO HOUR is back with a dripping hot mixshow for this lovers' weekend. Valentine's Day passed on Thursday but we can still stretch the love appeal for a few more days right? We were too busy enjoying ours to drop this earlier but it should still come right on time. In Hip Hop, there has always been songs focused on the good, bad and ugly sides of the relationship game. Slow jams wash that warm feeling over you but emcees don't hold back when it comes to expressing the complexities of love. From chicks on the side to needing love to getting passed by, we all have our favorite anthem that sums up our war with the heart. We got new joints form JEAN GRAE, AAROPHAT (Rawkus 50),BABY SHAM, WISE INTELLIGENT and GHOSTFACE. We take it back with a few rare and classic gems from PRINCE MARKIE DEE & THE SOUL CONVENTION, LeSHAUN, FATHER MC, HEAVY D, WU-TANG and MC LYTE.

For the ladies I included some treats in the form of CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMS and a great new singer outta Seattle, Washington, DARRIUS. Dim the lights and chill...
