THE ZRO HOUR 05.12.07

We are back with a new show full of some of the strongest music ever! We got joints from the new Bone Thugs In Harmony, "The Magnificent" Jazzy Jeff w/Jean Grae, DIVISION X( a group who had me open at their live show as one of the opening acts during the Large Professor tribute last month), and rare gems from Grand Puba, Akinyele, Organized Konfusion and the Fushinickens. I open the show with a hot breakbeat mix by SOULBROTHA, a DJ/production team from Germany. Their sound is strictly dusty grooves and classic samplers-NO synths. One emcee in particular had my ears on fire this week and that was BEKAY. Bekay is one of the Rawkus 50 for 2007. I was checking his Rawkus page and I came across his incredible flip of Xzibit's "Paparrazzi" beat. He calls it Acts Of Shame and we got it on the show. Bekay has documented his crazy journey in this great short film, "Bekay Blowing Up?!?"

Mother's day is this Sunday so I dug up YoYo's "Mama Don't Take No Mess" in tribute. I also dedicated another hot track by TRAEDONYA-"Beloved". Traedonya has a full, rich voice and the song is reminiscent of an 80's Grace Jones vibe. Check the video:

The next few shows are going to be crazy and look for our unsigned and independent showcase due Memorial Day weekend.

Enjoy:

GOLDEN PRESENTS: A TRIBUTE TO PHAROAHE MONCH 05.17.07

UNDERGROUND EXP presents a tribute to the one and only PHAROAHE MONCH at the GALAPAGOS ART SPACE in Brooklyn, NY. Featured performances include Beatboxer Entertainment, Silent Knight, Rugged N Raw, Division X and Eternia. This is THE show for me. Pharoahe Monch is one of my personal greatest emcees and has been doin' it since the very early 90's. He and Prince Poetry, formerly of Organized Konfusion, were way ahead of their time for their production, rhyme skills and content. Pharoahe is due to release his second solo album titled DESIRE. The show will be bananas indeed! I came through the last "Golden" jump off where Large Professor was saluted. Extra P gave the crowd mad energy and when his set suffered from the pitfalls of "2007 technology", he commanded the DJ to spin some vinyl and freestyled for the rest of his performance. Beatboxer Entertainment were also incredible and both Silent Knight and Division X represented that true Hip Hop that I live for. All were extremely talented and creative with their flows and content. I will be in the house for this one....

FIRST ANNUAL 24-HOUR RAPATHON

I don't know how I missed this...Yes I do. Its because Hot 97 in NYC is one of the main sponsors and I don't listen to terrestrial radio much (especially Hot 97). This Saturday, May 12th 2007, Hot 97 and the Global Artists Coalition is hosting the world's first ever 24 hour "Rapathon". This benefit and fundraiser is for the Hip Hop Culture Center in Harlem located on the second floor of the Magic Johnson Theater, 2309 Fredrick Douglass Boulevard. Here they will attempt a new Guinness World Record for the longest ongoing rhyme session. Today was the last day for tryouts which is unfortunate. Only 500 tickets are made available and I am not sure if they are all sold. Check HERE for more info.
