REVIEW

JL COTTER: The Album B4 The Album

J.L. Cotter is a 22 year old soul/ R& B artist hailing from Long Island, NY. He is the son of Robert Cotter, a musician that has played with the late Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers in a group known as The Big Apple Band (later known as CHIC). His musical roots run deep and are evident throughout this 19 track CD. From the texture of his voice to his lyrical content, his respect for good soul music is evident. Standout cuts such as FOR US, MAKE U CRY, JUST TELL HIM, and SHE LIKES IT put him in league with today’s current radio hits. Others such as PHONE CALL, BUSINESS AND PLEASURE, and KASUAL/NIGHT CLUB SCENE felt like filler material. The CD also features a guest appearance by MOS DEF on EAST SIDE. The production throughout is top notch so it will be a matter of time before radio responds. All in all, J.L. presents a strong outing full of passionate vocals and subject matter. With some fine tuning, we should be hearing a lot more from J.L. Cotter in the near future.

**UPDATE**

JL Cotter (Jared Cotter) was on of the original 24 finalists on American Idol this 2007 season. Although he was eliminated a few weeks ago he is still a strong talent to look out for...
